With the origin, the current site of the castle of Vincennes was used as hunting lodge to Louis VII. Its history starts at the 13th century, when Louis Philippe and Saint-Louis make build a manor. Saint-Louis then Philippe VI will increase considerably the building while making build a keep in the west of the manor. Louis Le Vau, architect of Louis XIV arranges the houses of the king and the queen. The castle of Vincennes becomes royal residence then, then takes in turn forms of prison under the Revolution, and military arsenal. It profits from great work of restoration since 1988. |
